Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD, is a very gentle, rhythmic technique that works to return lymphatic fluids to the cardiovascular system. You may already know that the lymph system assists with immune function and helps remove waste from our tissues, but it’s also what absorbs proteins, fats, and many vitamins and delivers them to our bloodstream. Maintaining lymphatic flow is a key part of our overall health.
Whereas massage and deep-tissue bodywork modalities bring circulation to the area (sometimes causing minor inflammation), MLD redirects fluid back home to the heart.
MLD is highly recommended for anyone suffering from or at risk of lymphedema, and for pre- and post-surgery (with surgeon’s permission) to help with swelling and pain. For recent liposuction & plastic surgery patients, MLD can enhance your results and encourage healthy recovery.
For CryoSkin slimming clients – optimizing your lymphatic function will help achieve best results, as the fat cells are removed via the lymphatic system. Please know that all forms of massage, as well as exercise, will help with lymph flow, but I do encourage you to receive MLD to target your treatment area.
